Why Iran is not a democracy?
Thursday May 4, 2006 at 2:24 pm | In Iran, democracy, election |
Many people may ask themeselves, why the world do not count on "Islamic Republic of Iran" as a democratic country. They may ask if Iran is not democratic , why there are so many elections there.
As an Iranian, It's been a long time that I want to write a little about the political structure and elections' routine here and describe for others why it is not a real democracy here, Today when I was surfing around, I faced to a good article about Iran's elections and political structure.
John's article, "Sorry, but Iran is not a democracy", explains in simple words why we can not say Iran is a democratic country.

back to add 2 other points:
1. “Real democracy” exists nowhere in the world. american democracy is nothing but “rich people democracy” or better call it “the rich dictatorship on the poor”.
2. democracy itself isn’t an ideal governing system. many philosophers in the world still question its functionality.
the fact is peope’s opinions/votes is not very valuable when it can be changed esaily by propaganda and publicity.
Totally, I think even if there is not a bit of democracy here in Iran, it’s not worth worrying.

Your glasses have bad filters and you can’t see the real world around you,
You want just a little thing and do not use the huge thing at around you.

I really like the site, and the posts. I’ve been following them for a few days now. Keep up the good work, and what is this “Robocup” thing…you’ll have to let me know what the point of it all is.

I’m curious if you could tell us how you feel this compares to other countries that call themselves republics?
Essentially the article said that Iran is not a real democracy because all candidates must be approved by the government … and therefore nobody who represents true change will be approved. In America, in order to run for president, one must be approved by a major party with enough funding to put up a serious fight. Sadly, an election here costs hundreds of millions of dollars, and is funded by corporate donations.
I’ve actually been writing about our version of democracy and would be very curious to hear your thoughts on the matter.
